Both Casamayor and Loss regularly teach film courses; Loss has been an advisor for the film minors and both of them write about film as part of their research agendas.
Internships at “Home:” The possibility for advanced students to gain credit working as editorial assistants at Cuba Counterpoints, building their research, design, and translations skills. Contact Professor Loss for independent study work in this realm.
KinoUConn
In the spring 2016 we will inaugurate this grassroots, collaborative film event led up by our current graduate student Milena Almira and faculty in Spanish. Almira, a young film director from Havana, organized the KinoCuba project (part of a vast global network) which unites a group of non-professionals and professionals to make film over the course of short time together, carrying out diverse tasks such as screenwriter, actor, lighting, camera. In this way, our UConn community will create active experiences, knowledge and even art with Cubans.
Classes on Cuba
Every semester, we conduct undergraduate and graduate courses on different aspects of Cuban culture that combine discussions on literature, visual arts, film, music, politics, and society. We would be delighted to invite faculty from around the campus to participate in special sessions of our courses. Courses announced here.
