Brady Ryan

Assistant Professor

Brady Ryan is Assistant Professor of Arabic.

Ryan researches modern Arabic literature and focuses on the inheritance and development of literary symbols, genres, and modes of critique across historical periods and literary generations. He has published on topics as diverse as gender and politically committed literature, aesthetic critiques of authoritarianism, and Sufism in historical novels. His scholarship and literary translations have appeared in Middle Eastern Literatures, Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies, Encyclopedia of Islam, Words Without Borders, and The Los Angeles Review. He is currently writing a book on post-Arab Spring historical novels.

Ryan holds a PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles. He taught at the University of Southern California before coming to UConn.
