Undergraduate French Minor

Benefits

Even if you cannot major in French, a minor in the discipline will be a strong asset for those who seek careers in international business (including marketing, finance, law), translation, education, diplomacy, just to name a few. Our minor includes a variety of courses that will help you develop solid language skills, learn about the French and francophone world, and enjoy the personal satisfaction of speaking French!

Requirements

The French minor consists of a minimum of 6 French courses (18 semester credit hours) at the 3200 level. Two courses must be taken in each of the three following categories:

  • 2 courses from Language
  • 2 courses from French and Francophone Culture
  • 2 courses from French Literatures Studies

    Cultural Studies French 3224

    Business French French 3217
  3. French Literary Studies

    Introduction to Literature French 3261 and/or 3262
    Film and Literature French 3223
    Literature (theatre/fiction/poetry) French 3220, 3221, or 3222
    Literary history French 3230, 3231, 3232, 3233, 3234, 3235, or 3280
    Literary and Cultural Theory French 3272

Study Abroad with UConn’s Paris Program

Study abroad is highly recommended, and students in Paris may earn up to 9 credits towards the French Minor. Any of the Minor courses may be replaced by an appropriate FREN 3293 from Paris.
