FRENCH PLAY:
Each year, at the end of the Spring semester, the “Uconn French Players” organize a production of a French or Francophone play,
in relation with the French “Theater Studies” course of the Department. The students may take the theoretical course for credit,
or just get involved in the play ; they learn to perform as actors, while also learning about all aspects of a production,
such as staging, costumes, set design, props, sound, etc. as well as designing the program and raising money.
Recent past production include:
- La guerre de Troie n’aura pas lieu (2003)
- La Tragédie du roi Christophe (2004)
- Le Cercle des représailles (2006)
- Un Chapeau de paille d’Italie (2007)
In 2008, to celebrate the 4th centenary
of Québec City, the play will be La vie exemplaire d'Alcide 1er le pharamineux et de sa proche descendance,
by the contemporary Québécois playwright, André Ricard.
These plays are not produced under the auspices of the
UConn Drama Department, but are very much the province of the French Program, and of the French Club.
Everything is made by the students, and much of it is accomplished on their own time.
