Awards

The French section also offers a number of awards for excellence in undergraduate study, for which our fifteen or twenty majors compete each year:

The Gilliam-Barberet, named for two professors who helped found French studies at UConn, awarded to the best senior planning a career in Education.

The Fanny Hathaway awards for general excellence by a male and a female undergraduate.

The Marie Naudin Memorial Award rewards an excellent French student who wishes to study abroad with our UConn Paris or Toulouse program, with a stipend and a French dictionary.

The Department of Modern & Classical Languages also offers a Senior Award to the best graduating French major, and offers French majors the chance to compete with the other majors in the Department for the Obuchowski award, awarded preferentially to those majoring in more than one language.

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy also offers a number of awards to outstanding majors and minors.

Beginning in 2008, a special French Québécois prize will be awarded by the Delegation du Québec in Boston.
