Theatre Translation |
| Organizer |
Phyllis Zatlin, Rutgers University |
| Schedule |
Thursday 4/7, 3:00-5:00 PM |
| Description |
In this workshop we will analyze the problems involved in translating fragments of two works for theatre: the play on words in the final scene of El tiro por la culata (1961) by Matías Montes Huidobro, and a simultaneous action scene from Nadie se va del todo (1991) by Pedro R. Monge Rafuls. Before attempting a collective English translation of the first fragment, Yara González-Montes and Matías Montes-Huidobro will give a dramatic reading of the original text. |

The Street: Performance Workshop |
| Organizer |
Cristina Escofet, Argentine playwright |
| Schedule |
Thursday 4/7, 3:00-5:00 PM
Friday 4/8, 3:00-4:45 PM
Saturday 4/9, 3:00-5:00 PM |
| Description |
A performance installation based on the idea of the subject in transit. The street as one of the places where history unfolds, where best to read the fragments … or where the fragments of history are told. The goal is to reproduce emblematic fragments, from 1960s bra burning and the theoretical discussions of the 1980s, to gay pride marches. Confessions from an “other” place: transvestism, exclusion, marginality. Once the objective is understood, and following a 45 minute warm-up, roles will be distributed and groups formed. Then follows a rehearsal: each group or individual will choose a place from which to tell their story to an audience of passersby. |
